Cash-Pay vs Insurance for Weight Loss Medication in Pittsburgh, PA
Cash-Pay vs Insurance for Weight Loss Medication in Pittsburgh, PA
Paying for weight loss care involves two separate costs: physician visits and the medication. How you pay for each can be different. This page explains how TeleSlim Clinic's cash-pay model works, how it compares with going through insurance, and what to ask your plan.
Side-by-side overview
| Question | Self-pay with TeleSlim Clinic | Going through insurance |
|---|---|---|
| Visit fees | Published and simple: $99 initial consultation, then $99 per month | Copays, deductibles and referral rules vary by plan |
| Billing | We do not bill insurance for our own visits; we handle prior authorization for your medication, send prescriptions and lab orders to the pharmacy or lab you choose, and you can request a superbill to submit for possible reimbursement | Your clinic bills your plan |
| Appointments | Video visits, no clinic drive | Often an in-person or office-based visit |
| Medication | Paid at your pharmacy; many plans exclude weight loss drugs | May require prior authorization, step therapy or a qualifying diagnosis |
| Coverage certainty | You know the visit cost up front | Varies widely by plan and can change each year |
TeleSlim Clinic visit plans
| Plan | Price |
|---|---|
| Initial consultation | $99 |
| Monthly plan | $99 per month |
| 3-Month plan | $269 |
| 6-Month plan | $499 (pay for 5 months, get 1 month free) |
| Annual plan | $899 (pay for 9 months, get 3 months free) |
These fees cover physician visits and care. Medication is a separate cost paid at the pharmacy.
Superbills, HSA and FSA
You can request a superbill and submit it to your insurer for possible reimbursement of the visit fee. Reimbursement is not guaranteed. Ask your plan administrator whether your HSA or FSA can be used for physician visits and prescriptions.
What to ask your insurance plan
- Does my plan cover prescription medication for weight management?
- Is prior authorization or a specific diagnosis required?
- Which medicines are on my formulary, and at what tier?
- Is there a visit limit or an out-of-network penalty?
